Ben and Kate coming to ITV 2

Ben and Kate coming to ITV 2 [CLICK THROUGH] Ben and Kate is a great new show. It’s light, funny show about a brother and sister. Kate is a single mum who helps her older brother Ben out by letting him live in her garage. In return Ben tries to help her out with her daughter Maddie. Ben tends to rope in his ridiculously loyal friend Tommy into his hair-brained schemes, whilst Kates friend BJ is always at hand to give her useless advice.

Winter Marathon

Winter Marathon

After years of watching shows make references to Felicity I finally watched it this holiday break. Now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t watch it sooner. A fantastic series, right to the end. I don’t care what anyone else says.

Watching it made me reminisce about J.J Abrams show that followed, Alias, which I realised I never finished watching.

So this winter instead of watching any Christmas shows on TV, I instead attempted to rectify my teenage TV mistakes.

New Year, New Blog (sort of)

THE BIG BANG THEORY

I’ve been told time and time again that I need to blog more, so I am going to do just that. I like to write long blog posts but they take too long and sometimes I start writing them and then I abandon them half way when I can’t quite articulate what I’m trying to say. So from now on I’ll be updating much more regularly about what I’m watching, it’ll be a lot more informal. Also be warned that blog header isn’t a joke I do watch too much TV, you just need to take a quick look at my Get Glue profile in the last 24 hours for proof.

I started the TV challenge, as explained in the about section, because I was bored with what I was watching and I wanted to broaden my TV watching spectrum. Although I haven’t finished it, I think it’s helped me achieve my goal. I haven’t stopped doing it but it’s just on hold for the time being. I have too many new TV shows that I’m watching that get in the way of watching the list too. Having said that I won’t turn you away if you have a show that you want me to watch.

Final note, this version of the Minudrome blog was on Posterous, it still is, but since the transfer to WordPress not all the videos made the move but they can still be accessed on Posterous.

The Greatest Event in Television History

Produced by Adam Scott and his wife Naomi. Starring Adam Scott, Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd. Oh and Paul Scheer and Kathryn Hahn also make hilarious appearances. That’s it, that’s all I’m telling you, now go forth and watch the Greatest Event in Television History.

The embedded video won’t play on this site but just click on it and it’ll take you to the Adult Swim site where it will work. Even in the UK, don’t have to do any tricks to make it work. So refreshing.

I admit it, reluctantly…I was wrong.

Hawaii-five-o

To be fair, I was right a little. The first episode is a pile of doody (so is most of the first season if I’m being perfectly honest). It awkwardly stumbles through the first introductions of all the characters as most shows do but this is more unbearable than most. It does get better but I think that’s largely due to the cast and how they play off each other. They all have great chemistry together, I love the interaction between them all. The character development and the chemistry is what kept me watching, that and because I really wanted to watch the NCIS:LA cross over episodes with background knowledge. If it wasn’t for those cross over episodes I wouldn’t have bothered. At first I couldn’t see how they could do the cross over, as I hadn’t watched the orginal series (my knowledge goes as far as the theme song), but after the first season I realised it reminded so much of JAG. Steve McGarrett has a lot of Harmon Rabb in him..or rather the other way round if the orginal series was in similar tone.

My biggest gripe with the show is product placement. It is laughable how obvious it is. It’s Bones’ Prius ridiculous. The most obvious is the Windows love, they all have Windows based phones, which they always have extensive close ups of them using…constant talk of uploading files from and to Sky Drive…and of course my favourite Chin telling Kono to ‘Bing it’ the popular phrase said by no one around the world.

My second favourite annoying product placement was Subway it is literally an advert in the middle of an episode…I mean seriously…I wonder if they think they’re being subtle with the placements…

Product placement aside I think it’s a fun show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, the character Danno helps to poke fun at Steve and in turn the show for us when it’s needed. If you only watch one episode then please make that the episode with James Caan. The storyline in that episode is middle of the road but the chance to see Scott Caan acting alongside his father James is not to be missed. It’s definitely one of the more humorous episodes.

Oh I almost forgot..they come up with calling their special team Five-O in private..suddenly in the next episode telling people they’re Five-0 (even before they’ve announced they’re law enforcement) is enough for people to just give themselves up! I suppose the gun in the face helps also..

Where to now?

The US Office should have ended with Michael Scott leaving, it really isn’t the same without Steve Carell. They’ve done a decent job keeping it going this season, but with so many changes to the manager role it’s started to seem like the guest presenter in Have I Got News For You. Now with Rainn Wilson starring in the spin off, Paul Lieberstein showrunning the spin off, Mindy Kaling leaving to star and write in her own show, B.J Novak having a reduced role and not to mention several other key writers who have gone onto other projects, it just seems like it’s time for the show to gracefully bow out. Rather than plowing through until it runs out of steam, which it is very close to doing. Sure Greg Daniels is coming back but is that enough?

As much as I love Dwight I don’t think I could watch an entire series of Dwight running his beet farm. Especially since I don’t think there would be much of Mose considering Michael Schur is busy with Parks & Recreation and all. I think Splitsider hit the nail in the head when they called it Joey with beets..

On a plus side Mindy’s new show has started releasing promos and I for one am really looking forward to the show. I am however heavily biased towards anything Kaling.
